Tirupati- Waiting for GOD.O.T

Samuel Beckett is who I remembered as I stood in the queue for Darshan at Tirupati. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waiting_for_Godot)

It is said that faith draws around 60,000 devotees per day on an average to this holy shrine.

Crowd management becomes paramount when you speak of such large numbers.

Even God gets less time to catch up on his sleep. The temple closes only for about a couple of hours after midnight to accommodate the faithful.

They don't allow photography within the temple premises. Which means you got to attempt to capture the beauty of the place in hastily drawn thumbnails as you wait for the queue to move.

So, this is where the waiting for GOD.O.T series started...

All the temples in Tirupati are not only tributes to God but also the dedication and creativity of the artists and the artisans.

We managed to visit Govind Raja, Venkateshwara, Kalahasti and Padmawati in that order - within 24 hours- and came away fascinated.

Kalahasti is particularly fascinating...

I am sure Ramesh will be delighted by this ban of cameras in the temple premises.

and, yes, for the curious ones who are wondering...the wait for the God. Of. Tirupati was worth it...

  1. your sketches as usual are the best. I prefer that you ban cameras instead of temple's banning cameras.
