Buddham Sharnam Gachami

What is easy to overlook in Bangkok, in the hustle and bustle, as you shop for fake designer bags, and long for -ahem- relaxing Thai massages, is the fact that the city is dotted with numerous Buddhist monasteries.

One such monastery is located bang opposite the Grand Hotel ( Why do all cities invariably have a hotel named or sur-named Grand?)

Opposite Centara Grand- to be precise. and, I forget the name of the shrine- to be imprecise.

The beauty of the place was only matched by the peace that prevailed in the premises. It was prayer time - and my SLR sounded like Dirty Harry's Point Four Four as I released the shutter, in the stillness.

Buddhist priests are not inclined to violence but why take a chance, I told myself, as I put the mirror up and quietened the D7000.

This picture is taken just to prove to all of  you that I am not the only young fellow who prefers the Temple to the Thai massage.

On the spot sketch follows in the next post (where did I keep my sketch pad?).....

  1. Thanks for this free "e trip" to Bangkok.
    Where is the sketch?
I value your sketches more than any camera picture you take.
