Golconda- Shepherd's hill- that's what it means in Telugu... you can't get humbler than that!!
But, this little hill has a glorious history.
"Golconda" standard means diamond in its purest form...
and, while there are no diamonds here today, the rocks of Golconda have inspired many to come, stand and stare.. in amazement.
In vain, O Kings, doth time aspire
To make your names oblivion's sport,
While yonder hill wears like a tier
The ruined grandeur of your fort.
To make your names oblivion's sport,
While yonder hill wears like a tier
The ruined grandeur of your fort.
-Sarojini Naidu
Khandaharein bayaan kar rahi hain,
ki Imaarat kabhi bulandh thi...
HAST thou from the caves of Golconda, a gem

Pure as the ice-drop that froze on the mountain?
| ||
Bright as the humming-bird’s green diadem,
| ||
When it flutters in sun-beams that shine through a fountain?
