Break Heart Pass

The route that once upon a time, insane merchants from the east took to the west, and vice versa goes up to 5000m above mean sea level.....

The route that went by the intoxicating name of "The Silk route".

and, the pass that is called Khardung La... after a hamlet by the same name few kilometres ahead.

What winds fanned the fires in the hearts of these intrepid merchants? How many survived. and How many made it to their destination. 

. and, how many settled down in the nearby plains and made it their home...

I wonder...

As for me, this moonscape of rock formations and the endless stretch of white.. this inhospitable terrain which is manned by our wonderful Jawans... reminded me of the old Alistair Mclean novel... The Break Heart Pass!
