Tokyo Tower and the Temple

1958.

Japan  was struggling back to its feet after a war that had left the entire world limping.

It was important to show the steel of resolve, to its people, to pick up the pieces and heal.

and, what better way to do it than by  putting up a tower made of metal, which at 333 m, would come to signify a big aspiration to reach for the skies.

and, what better place to put it beside a temple complex of the Buddha, the wise, who stands for everything the process of healing required- penance, resolve and calm.

The Zozo-ji temple complex was built in 14th century and shifted to its present location in the 16th century by a Shogun, who perhaps, had grand visions for Japan.

A photo ode to the Tower that put Japan back on the  road to progress.
